Notes: Joseph Mason was born circa 1739 and his will proven 15 May 1777 in Lancaster VA. Joseph married about 1760 Winnie Coats. Joseph and Winnie had four children listed in Joseph's will of 1777. They are George Mason, we assume to be the oldest, Peter born 22 Aug 1764, who I am descended from, Elizabeth or (Betty), Catherine or (Caty). One of the witnesses of the will is a John Mason who I assume to be a brother. I am trying to trace Joseph Mason's ancestors. Right now this family is a dead end. I had originally thought that possibly Joseph immigrated from England but there is no proof of that only a comment of a grandson on a census that indicated that his parents came from England, which I don't find to be true at this point. -- Dave E.
