1. John Mason b. abt 1790 in Virginia who married Frances Gaston. This family settled in Gaston & Lincoln counties in North Carolina. Their children were as follows: (all born in North Carolina)

Notes:
a.. The only proof we have that John Mason was born in Virginia is Lawson A. Mason gives his father's place of birth as Virginia on the 1880 census. Much research has been done over the last 30 years with no luck what so ever. A professional genealogist even went so far as to say she thought John and Frances were made up names - possibly because Lawson did not want to be associated with his real parents. However, a great grandchild who knew them, did claim that was really their names. There may be connection between this lineage and that of Joshua Mason/Elizabeth Salter because of naming patterns.
b. Lawson, Caleb and Louisa stayed in North Carolina. Lawson married Rebecca Craig and Catherine Lineberger. He was a public figure in the Gaston county area. Caleb married Eliza Ramsey, and we do not know much about Louisa.
c. William A. Mason and Samuel Salathiel Mason moved from NC to Conway county, Arkansas. William's only known wife was Catherine Scott, but he probably had one before her due to his age at the time he married her. Samuel married Elizabeth Shewmake. He died in Conway county and Elizabeth came in to Indian Territory with her children.
